Sexual dysfunction refers to a problem during any phase of the sexual response cycle that prevents the individual or couple from experiencing satisfaction from the sexual activity. The sexual response cycle has four phases: excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution.


What are causes sexual dysfunction?

Heart disease,High cholesterol,High blood pressure, Diabetes, Obesity, Parkinson's disease,Multiple sclerosis , Low Testosterone, Peyronie's disease, Medications, Tobacco Use Alcoholism, prostate cancer or enlarged prostateSurgeries or injuries that affect the pelvic area or spinal cord

The brain plays a key role in that cause an erection,starting with feelings of sexual excitement. Depression,Anxiety,Stress,Relationship problems, Stress, poor communication


How does sexual dysfunction affect men?

The most common problems related to sexual dysfunction in men include ejaculation disorders, erectile dysfunction and inhibited sexual desire.

1) EJACULATION DISORDERS

There are different types of ejaculation disorders, including:

  •  Premature ejaculation —This refers to ejaculation that occurs before or soon after penetration. most common form of sexual dysfunction in men, often is due to performance anxiety during sex. However, organic causes are sometimes present
  •  Inhibited or retarded ejaculation —this is when ejaculation does not occur
  •  Retrograde ejaculation —It is most common in males with diabetes who suffer from diabetic neuropathy

2) ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Also known as impotence, erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to attain and or maintain an erection suitable for intercourse.


3) REDUCED LIBIDO

Inhibited sexual desire- means decrease in desire for or interest in sexual activity.


4) NIGHTFALL

It is a very harmless, though unfortunate condition that many men suffer from. This is a condition in which the male genitalia express discharge of semen, while the male is still asleep. In Ayurvedic texts, it is referred to as ‘swapandosha’. According to modern science, there is nothing wrong or extraordinary with nightfall. In fact, it is a part of the natural bodily processes and it may happen only due to male hormones. Young men, in the age range of 18 to 30 years are most usually afflicted with this condition.


5) DHATU ROG

Dhatu Dosha, Dhat syndrome, Shukrameha (Shukra = sperm + meha = passage in urine), loss of semen are the common names for Spermatorrhoea or semen loss through nocturnal emissions, urine and masturbation. It is considered one of the twenty types of Prameha described in Ayurveda.


How is male sexual dysfunction diagnosed?

  •  History Taking
  •  Clinical Examination
  •  Investigations
  •  Blood tests- heart disease, diabetes, low testosterone levels and other health problems
  •  Urine tests like blood tests, urine tests are used to look for signs of diabetes and other underlying health conditions
  •  Ultrasonography

Treatment for sexual dysfunction

Vajikaran Chikitsa

Ayuveda is divided in eight branches,Vajikarana is one of the eight branches which deals with all types of physical, and psychological sexual problems like impotence, libido, poor erection and early ejaculation in males and sterility, frigidity in females.

Vajikaran tantra (technique) claims that it has tips for a normal, healthy and mature shukra dhatu, which is ultimately essential for satisfying and productive sex.

The treatment adopted in a Ayurved to increase libido, quality and quantity of semen, duration of erection and to treat infertility effectively is known as VAAJIKARANA.

As this therapy increases the strength of a man to perform sexual act, like a horse, it is called 'Vajikaran'.(‘Vaaji’= Horse.)

Who should have Vajikaran?

  •  Age group (between 16 to 70 years)
  •  Importance (with the exception of hereditary Or traumatic impotence.)
  •  Frequent indulgence in sex
  •  Shukra Kashay (oligo spermia)
  •  Dhanavan (rich)

Who should Avoid Vajikaran?

  •  Before 16 years and after 70 years of age
  •  Duratma (evil minded people)
  •  Traumatic and hereditary impotence
